    another.im 0.7 · 2026-10-23 → 2026-10-28 · tag v0.7.11

The line built on libtacky 1.1. 0.7.11 runs on libtacky 1.1.11 and pairs with tackygram 0.3.11; 0.7.7, 0.7.8 and 0.7.9 were tagged without releases of their own and ship inside 0.7.10.

    0.7.11 — 2026-10-28

    • Android: unlocking the phone no longer shows a fingerprint prompt over messages that reopen by themselves; the fingerprint is asked only at the first start and after the app was swiped away or killed.
    • Mac and Windows: only the computer's sleep closes your messages (Touch ID or Windows Hello once at the wake); a screen lock, the screen saver or the display sleeping asks nothing. Windows Hello's dialog comes to the front; a passing Hello outage says Try again instead of offering to start over.
    • Telegram secret chats you start no longer end at the other side's first message (libtacky 1.1.11, tackygram 0.3.11).

    0.7.10 — 2026-10-27

    • Settings → Accounts: each account's settings (password, push, blocked, certificates, Link a device, disable, remove); the account menu is Set status, My profile, Contacts, Service discovery, Stickers; Calls is in "…"; About and the log are one page, Advanced.
    • My profile: Sessions lists every device signed in (full list with XEP-0494), your profile (vCard) with who may see it, and your own chat as a contact.
    • One status for all your devices, shown by Gajim, Conversations, Monal and others; under a name: status, else last seen, else Online.
    • Profiles of contacts: pronouns, phones, emails, work, birthday and their local time; Telegram contacts too.
    • Disappearing messages per chat, 5 minutes to 4 weeks (XEP-0466); in rooms only a moderator sets them. At their end they read "Message disappeared" and keep their history while Preserve complete history is on.
    • Bot buttons and quick replies (XEP-0439), never drawn in rooms or on encrypted messages.
    • Report spam as a box in Block and in a declined request (XEP-0377); Keep history on the server can be turned off.
    • Link previews are fetched on send or on Show preview, never in secret chats; custom emoji pictures are gone and animated stickers are shown still.
    • Find any of your Telegram chats by name or @username without adding contacts (tackygram 0.3.10).
    • Security: the final and delta reviews of 2026-10-27 (lock, call window, room timers, group-call invitations, bot buttons, link previews).
    • Android: messages close when the phone locks and reopen on unlock while the app is in Recents; fingerprint after a swipe or restart; Lock now in Privacy; messages keep arriving sealed while locked. After a screen lock, Touch ID, Windows Hello or the fingerprint comes by itself as you unlock.
    • Calls: a desktop call window with a floating tile and Return to call, kept when the main window closes; a redone call screen with labelled buttons, mute and hold shown, and plain failure reasons; earpiece, headset choice and Mute in the notification on Android; group call cards.
    • Fixes: right-click shows no webview menu, direct files open at once (#47), Windows unread badge (#52), gateway chats say "No end-to-end encryption" (#60), large text on phones, keyboard focus in dialogs, readable contrast in both themes, Android starts without network (Retry on a failed start).

    0.7 → 0.7.6

    • Much faster catch-up; Contacts & Bookmarks in one window; files through your server; a reason under every unsent message.
    • Silent and scheduled messages (hold Send); albums, polls, contact cards and places as cards.
    • Encrypted by default with a key the system keeps; no passphrase. Nothing gets deleted: "Message retracted" keeps its history.
    • Telegram: secret chats with real end-to-end encryption, a scannable QR code, search by @username.
    • Settings tidied, offline mode, link previews (#41), forward with a comment; Enter makes a new line.
    • Locales: English, Russian, Ukrainian, Estonian and Spanish.
    • Security fixes from the reviews of 2026-10-25 to 10-27.

Upgrading: the web client image is dev.another.im/another-im/anotherim-js-web:0.7 (a quadlet's Image= line); 0.7 follows the latest 0.7.x.

Downloads: the 0.7.10 files below. Android (apk, and a build with Google Play services), Windows (installer and portable zip), Linux (Flatpak and AppImage), macOS on Apple silicon (dmg, signed and notarized). Checksums in SHA256SUMS.

    another.im 0.6 · 2026-10-17 → 2026-10-21 · tag v0.6.9

The first public line. 0.6.0 gathered everything from 0.5 with Tor, I2P and proxy connections; the versions after it brought sharing on Android, a message store that opens only with you, room mentions, a roster manager, stickers and one Find people. On libtacky 1.0.0 → 1.0.7.

    0.6.9 — 2026-10-21

    • Double Enter to send is the new default: Enter starts a line, a second Enter sends; Preferences brings back one-Enter sending.
    • Find people and Transports are one search over your server's directory, Telegram, Matrix and other networks; Telegram linking starts there.
    • Service discovery reads as a plain list of your server's services (Group chats, File upload, Telegram transport).
    • The shield on an encrypted message names the device that sent it and how far you trust it.
    • Group calls between our apps are sealed with OMEMO per device; a latecomer can join after the caller left. Room member lists are fresh again after a sleep or a server restart.
    • Fixes: no light line under an empty message field at 125 % scale.

    0.6.8 — 2026-10-21

    • Stickers: a button beside the paperclip opens your packs, a tap sends. Add a picture from a link or import a pack; packs follow you to all your devices. Received stickers show without a bubble. "Show stickers" in Appearance turns them back into files.

    0.6.7 — 2026-10-21

    • Manage roster…, on the Contacts tab: your whole roster by group, with a filter and checkboxes. Ask for presence, approve, stop sharing, move to a group, remove from groups or delete many contacts at once.

    0.6.6 — 2026-10-21

    • Mentions in rooms: type @ and pick a person, or "Everyone in the room". Mentions show as tappable names, and a message that mentions you is tinted.
    • A room on "Mentions only" now rings for a mention, also while the app is closed ("Mentioned you"), on servers that mark mentions in push. Muted chats stay quiet.
    • Muting a busy room asks: "Mentions only" until the mute ends, or "Silence everything". "Every message" is back in the room menu.
    • Room members are a compact pane beside the chat: roles with counts, pictures, nicks, blocked people dimmed at the bottom.

    0.6.5 — 2026-10-20

    • Your messages open only with you there: the encrypted store is split so the accounts open by themselves (calls still ring) while messages wait for Touch ID, Windows Hello, your phone's lock or the recovery key. Existing stores are split on the first unlock.
    • Linux keeps that key in the system keyring, and says so.
    • On a phone, a notification while the app is closed shows the server's short summary instead of the text.
    • A portable Windows build: a zip to unpack and run, nothing installed.

    0.6.4 — 2026-10-19

    • Add a Telegram contact by @username, and Matrix people (@name:matrix.org) or rooms (#room:matrix.org) through your server's gateways.
    • New sounds: a soft two-note chime for notifications, a quiet pop in the open chat. A burst of messages rings once.
    • Fixes: calling a device with an unverified key ends at once and says why; a broken call path reconnects instead of dropping; first messages from QXmpp-based apps are no longer lost; devices of one app are told apart.

    0.6.3 — 2026-10-19

    • A plain app icon everywhere: a flat slate circle with the white figure.
    • Sign-in's second choice is "Custom server", with host, port and TLS folded under Advanced settings.
    • A floating date at the top while you scroll a chat, as in Telegram.
    • Connection info is one page; push delivery status moved to Settings, Notifications.

    0.6.2 — 2026-10-18

    • macOS: no more freeze after the Mac wakes from sleep.
    • Reconnecting no longer downloads days of old history (it could be 36 MB after a short sleep).
    • An encrypted message that can never get the contact's keys (for example behind a Telegram bridge) shows as not sent, with Retry and Send without encryption, instead of waiting for ever.

    0.6.1 — 2026-10-18

    • Android: another.im is in the Share menu, for links, text, photos, videos and files; nothing is sent until you send it.
    • The web version signs in on the provider's page too.
    • Esc closes the open chat (menus, dialogs and the reply bar first); a click beside a picture closes the viewer.
    • A room you can't join says why, with Try again.
    • A device signed in later gets your pins, drafts, mutes and other shared settings; chats it can't read still show in the list.
    • Fixes: Linux on Wayland with NVIDIA starts again; typing no longer lags; non-Latin file names upload; selected text is visible in both themes; a new account opens at once; the window drags by its whole header.

    0.6.0 — 2026-10-17

    • The first public release, gathering everything since 0.5. Each account connects directly, through Tor, I2P or a SOCKS5 proxy.
    • Audio and video calls on desktop and Android, shown in the chat as bubbles with call-back.
    • OMEMO 2 beside OMEMO 0.3, data encryption at first start, and the device's own app lock (fingerprint, face, Windows Hello, Touch ID).
    • A timed room mute ends in "Mentions only"; push from a room opens it; push works in the Flatpak.
    • Linux: Flatpak, and an AppImage that runs from glibc 2.34 (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, EL9). Android: apk, and a build with Google services.

Downloads (0.6.9): Android (apk, and a build with Google Play services for FCM push), Windows (installer and portable zip), Linux (Flatpak and AppImage). No macOS build is kept for this line. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.

    another.im 0.5 · 2026-10-15 → 2026-10-16 · tag v0.5.9

A big redesign in two days. 0.5.2 brought a new first start, the device's own app lock, working video calls and a Telegram-style account menu; the versions after it were fixes, mostly for Linux. 0.5.0, 0.5.1 and 0.5.5 were never released. On libtacky 1.0.0-rc5 → rc7.

    0.5.9 — 2026-10-16

    • Linux: pasting with an empty clipboard no longer crashes the app (a WebKitGTK bug, kept away until the fix reaches the runtime).
    • The XML console lives in the account menu's More only; it records while it is open.

    0.5.8 — 2026-10-16

    • The desktop app no longer crashes on quit, and the last changes are saved.
    • Linux: dropping a file on the window attaches it again instead of blanking the window.
    • A device whose key hasn't arrived yet can't be trusted ahead of it.
    • The XML console opens in its own window on the desktop.

    0.5.7 — 2026-10-16

    • The Linux AppImage is back, now running on Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Rocky and AlmaLinux 9 and newer.
    • The details or People column steps aside when the window is too narrow.

    0.5.6 — 2026-10-16

    • Linux Flatpak: push notifications finally work, and a push can start the closed app.
    • The app opens on the account you last had in front.
    • Fixes: devices stay in place while you set their trust; a menu closes when the window is resized.

    0.5.4 — 2026-10-16

    • Tapping a push from a room opens the room, also when the tap starts the app.

    0.5.3 — 2026-10-16

    • Fixes: Linux keeps selected text selected; Tab types a tab in the message field; no scrollbar in the empty field at 125 %; a cleaner title bar shadow; Android's status-bar icon has its proper size.

    0.5.2 — 2026-10-15

    • A new first start: "Encrypt your data?" (the key stays in the device's key store, a recovery key is shown once), then sign-in on your provider's own page.
    • The app lock is your device's own: fingerprint, face or screen lock on Android, Windows Hello, Touch ID. No app PIN any more; Android hides the app from recents and screenshots while locked.
    • Video calls on desktop and Android, with a new call screen (security emoji, device switching) and calls shown as bubbles in the chat.
    • An account menu after Telegram's, New window on the desktop, Contact info on one page, Service discovery, Settings starting with Accounts.
    • A shield on each encrypted message shows trust and OMEMO version; messages from refused keys are red; keys to review in a small card.
    • Rooms: a timed mute goes back to mentions only, People open beside the chat, threads open beside it on a wide screen.
    • One status text for all your devices; messages keep their own times after the phone slept.
    • Fixes: touching the window edge no longer crashes GNOME Shell; Telegram @usernames can be looked up; old Android WebViews get an update hint. No AppImage in this release.

Downloads (0.5.9): Android (apk, and a build with Google Play services for FCM push), Windows (installer), Linux (Flatpak and AppImage). No macOS build is kept for this line. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.

    another.im 0.4 · 2026-10-10 → 2026-10-12 · tag v0.4.7

The encryption line. The app learned to speak OMEMO 2, to ask about every new device, and to sync your encryption choices and trusted keys between your devices; a security audit's fixes landed along the way. It closed with Night and Day themes and a new sign-in screen. On libtacky 1.0.0-beta1 → beta7; macOS stayed on 0.4.0.

    0.4.7 — 2026-10-12

    • A new sign-in screen: your server's own page (OAuth) by default, also a QR code from another device, a backup, or a password with options. Account creation solves the server's proof of work or captcha.
    • At first start the app offers to encrypt your messages, keeping the key in Android's Keystore or the system keyring, with a recovery phrase shown once.
    • Preferences as a dialog on the desktop, with a Calls page to test camera, microphone and speaker; tray and "Stay connected when closed" options; "Use threads" (off by default).
    • The app ID is now im.another.messenger. Desktop moves your data by itself; on Android it is a new app: install it beside the old one and sign in again.
    • Two Android builds: the usual one without Google code, and a "-gms" one that uses Google's push when no UnifiedPush app is installed. Pushes never carry message text.
    • Catching up after hours offline is much faster and keeps the phone cool.
    • Security fixes from a review of the whole app (Android backups, calls on the lock screen, other apps opening chats, sign-in links, contact-request names).

    0.4.6 — 2026-10-12

    • Two themes, Night (default) and Day, with an accent colour of your choice or one from your wallpaper.
    • Typing shows as three dots in the header and the chat list; the whole header opens the contact.
    • Fixes: dropped files reach the chat again; encrypted pictures show inline in Gajim and others; a picture that can't be shown says why.

    0.4.5 — 2026-10-12

    • Security: the fixes of a libtacky security audit (sign-in channel binding, calls, synced trust taken only from verified devices, hardening against malformed input).
    • The "New messages" line sits exactly above the first unread message.
    • About shows the app's and libtacky's commit; all seven languages complete again.

    0.4.4 — 2026-10-12

    • The padlock chooses the encryption: Prefer OMEMO 2 (default), Require OMEMO 2, OMEMO 0.3 only or none; a line warns when a device gets the older version.
    • Your encryption choices and trusted keys follow you to your other devices.
    • Messages from untrusted devices are shown with a warning padlock instead of being dropped.
    • Auto-download files from servers you choose; a "New messages" line in chats; the XML console sends again.

    0.4.3 — 2026-10-12

    • A contact's reinstalled device keeps working with its new key, unless you have verified their devices; then "Accept new key" waits for you.
    • The "Review encryption keys" bar goes away once you've decided.
    • Phone: tapping a chat no longer steals focus from a physical keyboard.

    0.4.2 — 2026-10-12

    • Contacts whose apps sign keys the older way are reached with OMEMO 2 again.

    0.4.1 — 2026-10-11

    • Windows: the app starts again (the first 0.4.0 installer was replaced with this fix).
    • Clicking the open chat keeps the cursor in the message field.

    0.4.0 — 2026-10-10

    • Messages reach people who use OMEMO 2 only (such as Kaidan); the app asks about each new device; the padlock names the OMEMO version; a lock marks each encrypted message.
    • Old messages this device can't read fold into one line a day.
    • Private messages in group chats open as their own chat; contact requests are an ordinary chat with Accept and Decline.
    • New Lucide icons, tidier settings, an About page for bug reports, the app's own title bar on Linux, a better fit on macOS.
    • Phone notifications go through the new push server; catch-up is two to four times faster.

Downloads: binaries for the 0.4 line are not kept; this page has the notes only. The newest release has the current builds.

    another.im 0.3 · 2026-10-02 → 2026-10-10 · tag v0.3.8

The line that made the app an everyday messenger: voice and round video messages, several accounts, read ticks, a tray icon and proper desktop notifications. Late in the line OMEMO moved onto libtacky's own code and gained OMEMO 2. On libtacky 1.0.0 alphas (alpha7 → alpha11 from 0.3.6 on).

    0.3.8 — 2026-10-10

    • OMEMO 2, private messages in group chats, the new-device question and a much faster catch-up (described on the 0.4 page).
    • The Android app carries the right libtacky again (0.3.7's had an old one by mistake).

    0.3.7 — 2026-10-09

    • Signing up works with servers on another port or direct TLS.
    • A chat is marked read only as far as you scrolled, never while hidden or locked.
    • Group encryption info shows who needs attention; a call dropped by the network shows as failed.
    • Corrections, reactions and replies in groups land on the right message.

    0.3.6 — 2026-10-08

    • OMEMO runs on libtacky's own code: your contacts see one new device of yours to trust.
    • Saving a file asks where and tells you where it went.
    • A message too big for the server is refused instead of breaking the connection.
    • Typing moved to a small note at the bottom of the chat; floods of status updates no longer freeze the app.

    0.3.5 — 2026-10-05

    • Chat list search behind the magnifying glass, New chat beside it.
    • Linux: pasting pictures under Wayland works again; the launcher's unread count returns after unlocking.

    0.3.4 — 2026-10-05

    • Desktop notifications like Gajim's and Dino's: picture, name and message, none while the window is in front.
    • Contacts show online, away since, or last seen.

    0.3.3 — 2026-10-05

    • Several accounts, switched like in Telegram, all notifying.
    • A new layout: Settings as groups, chat details in a window or side panel.
    • Pinned messages, albums, forwarding several messages, xmpp: links, a warning before web links.

    0.3.2 — 2026-10-05

    • Typing notifications both ways (yours can be turned off).
    • Two grey ticks when delivered, two coloured when read.
    • Encrypted group chats get the padlock; a simpler tray icon with a red dot.

    0.3.1 — 2026-10-02

    • A tray icon, with close to tray; chats close with Ctrl+W.
    • Contact info lists devices and presence sharing.
    • Faster pictures from saved thumbnails; Android follows the network.

    0.3.0 — 2026-10-02

    • Voice and round video messages: hold the button to record.
    • Connection info and an XML console; encryption info per chat (devices, fingerprints, trust).
    • Muted chats no longer send push; one tap opens a picture; Saved messages stays on top.

Downloads (0.3.8): Android (apk), Windows (installer), Linux (Flatpak and AppImage). No macOS build is kept for this line. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.
